Filósofo y educador alemán. Influido por
Immanuel Kant, en su
Sistema del idealismo trascendental (1800) intentó unir su concepto de naturaleza con la filosofía de Johann Gottlieb Fichte. Sostuvo que el arte media entre las esferas natural y física cuando las producciones naturales (o inconscientes) y las espirituales (o conscientes) se unen en la creación artística. Su concepción de que lo Absoluto se expresa a sí mismo en todos los seres como la unidad de lo subjetivo y lo objetivo, fue criticada por G.W.F. Hegel. En
Sobre la libertad humana (1809), declaró que tal libertad es real si es libertad para el bien y para el mal, posición que constituye la base de su filosofía posterior. Figura eminente del
idealismo poskantiano, Schelling influyó de manera importante en el romanticismo. See also
